Very nice journey and description, Jano. Thanks for that!

Regarding posture, I find that, for me, that is one of the biggest factors that lead to a more or less fulfilling or frustrating experience (I know I shouldn’t judge the experience itself, though :-)). I started meditating while lying down in order to not have to worry about keeping a good posture, but as meditative states got deeper and I progressed in the journey, I adopted the sitting posture, as is recommended by most (if not all) teachers.

Pain and discomfort were almost always there until I decided to try some props. A simple zafu and zabuton set greatly improved my meditation, but my breakthrough came, after much research, with a KindSeat. Granted, it’s not cheap – but the way this meditation bench greatly adapts to your every posture is simply amazing, by way of a clever design that constantly changes the angle of the sitting area, based on your position and movements. It can be used while kneeling (my favourite) or while sitting in lotus position. With it, I can easily sit for 1-2 hours with no problems. And my wife, who is a Physiotherapist and was constantly worried about numbness on my feet and legs, and always advising me not to sit through it, as it could potentially lead to nerve damage, also approved of it.

I was only a bit disappointed when not even the KindSeat could help me through a 10-day Vipassana retreat, which involved 10-hour/day meditation sessions, that I undertook a few months back. 😉 But for a day to day practice, this was by far the best thing that I have found so far, just after TMI. 🙂

Also to be mentioned is that Jonathan, the owner and producer of the KindSeat, is a very kind person (see where he probably got the product’s name from? ;-)), and you can clearly see that he does this out of love. BTW, I’m not affiliated with him or the KindSeat in any way other than being a grateful customer and user.

    In Joy,
    Paulo
