<p>The cognitive event you speak of can be said to occur to/within the mind-system.</p>
<p>I might be just duelling with semantics though &#8212; I feel it&#8217;s important &#8212; the term individual brings up feelings of a solidly-existing entity moving along a timeline. </p>

<p>The example I usually think of is that of trying to drive to a destination using an old-style map.  (From the days when we actually still used maps rather than google maps&#8230;)</p>
