    Allen,
I agree with Neko totally !!
I would add that , as I experienced Goenka’s meditation it was mainly an excellent exercise for exclusive attention concentration with equanimity. I don’t believe that just by observing physical sensations with equanimity the subconscious can be purified.

TMI not only gives as a method to progress in meditation but is a whole mind detailed explanation with scientific knowledge integrated to buddhist wisdom , a comprehensive mind system model, the subminds and how to understand and deal with them, the needed pair and very different mind activities: attention and peripheral awareness, the integration of the obtained tranquility, equanimity, joy , happiness in daily life.

I have noticed that when I have doubts regarding my meditation… distractions…etc I go to the book and can find the answer. That book requires many readings to catch all it’s wisdom.
So, TMI for me the best of the bests !!

    Hi Orhan,Khaled, Matthew, Lesley,
Having read what you wrote, I would say that my experience is as follows: I certainly hear the sound while meditating , almost always but I leave it on the background in the peripheral awareness and it doesn’t bother me at all.
I would say that the best way of starting to solve the problem of the inner sound is to re-read pgs 245-246 of the book: Sixth Interlude. Pacification of the Auditory For me this book is a real treasure or an encyclopedia where one can find the answers to almost everything about our minds but reading it many times sometimes is needed because it is dense and inmense and “hearing” deeply is needed. I personally need to read it many many more times to get it better…
    I hope this helps
    The best to you all!

    Hello Ollie,

I have followed the You Tube Guided Meditation Culadasa, California Retreat #2, Part 6 (45min) and it has helped me a lot, just following his instructions peacefully…and I’ve come to understand and sense even more what he explains in the book about this “game” of comparisons .
The other thing that helps me a lot when in I am in similar troubles (many times) is to re-read the section or sections of the book where Culadasa explains the subject in question. I think that monumental book needs many readings ro catch so much wisdom in it. Perhaps we forget that the purpose of comparing the breaths is just to keep actively engaged in order to prevent mind distractions . I imagine, then, that perhaps it is just about trying to focus very deeply on the different sensations and very lightly observe -sense the differences but with out getting involved with thinking, just easily noticeable differences and I suppose not looking for in establishing any precision in the differences at all, otherwise thinking takes the lead.
I hope these ideas can help you.
    All the best,
    Ana
